The research center of ESET, a leading provider of software for digital security, alerts users of the online poker platforms PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to a new and dangerous spyware program called Odlanor.
This spyware that captures screenshots of the infected user's virtual poker hand, is designed with the ambition and to let the criminal who work to spread the malware to cheat during online games.
As of September 16, several hundred users were infected with Windows32 / Spy.Odlanor.
ESET researchers have analyzed the Trojans and found that you install and activate on Windows in several ways.
To trick users, Odlanor masquerades as different types of common software, such as Daemon Tools and uTorrent, or support tools related to poker; in other cases the spyware is installed instead through some specific programs related to poker.
Once installed, the malware first checks that the victim is using PokerStars or Full Tilt Poker, capturing screenshots of the poker hand, all without the victim's knowledge.
The screenshots show the cards held by the victim in the virtual hand are sent to the cyber criminal who, by deception, exploits to his advantage to win the game of poker.
